Top 5 Tips for Eloping This Summer | Denver Elopement Photographer

Are you and your love considering eloping this Summer?

Maybe wedding planning feels way too overwhelming. Maybe you’d rather spend your budget on a new home. Or maybe you’re just dreaming of a private, intimate getaway to exchange your own vows instead.

Eloping can be a magical and unforgettable way to tie the knot!

To ensure your special day goes smoothly, here are my top five tips for eloping this summer.

Top 5 Tips for Eloping This Summer

  1. Choose the Location to Fit You: One of my favorite things about elopements I have photographed over the years is the ability to truly make every single detail fit the two of you. What do you like to do together? Are there special spots that have meanings and memories? Maybe you’re the adventurous couple who wants beautiful hiking trails and mountain-scapes in the background. Or maybe it’s the arcade or park you went on your first date. Whatever location you choose, make sure it fits the two of you to make it extra special! (Also, remember that some locations may require a photography permit, so to allow for at least 2-3 weeks notice to your photographer).

  2. Choose the Right Photographer: Since an elopement usually consists of just the two of you, your photographer, and maybe 1-4 other people, it is SO important that you choose the right photographer you love to spend this intimate and celebratory time with you! During elopments, I’ve even gone as far to pick up the bride and help corrdinate the perfect spot and timing for the first look to kick off their elopment. These moments are everything! You want to make sure you fully trust your photographer, and actually enjoy hanging out with them to ensure a stress-free elopement experience.

  3. Always Be Flexible: If there’s one thing we know for sure, Colorado's weather can be unpredictable. Remember that an elopement is much simpler than a fully planned wedding, so my best tip is to always be willing to make changes, be spontaneous, and enjoy the fully adventure the day brings! If it rains, you can always capture cute photos of you two dancing in the rain, splashing in puddles, and enjoying! It’s also a great idea to throw in some extra just-in-case clothes in the car — jacket, sunscreen, blanket, bags, makeup for touch-ups, hairbrush, etc.

  4. Minor Details Planning: While elopements help you to avoid the wedding day planning fiasco, it is a good idea to do a little bit of minor planning. First, check the marriage license requirements to make sure you have all of the necessary documents, identification, and any applicable fees. Know if you need witnesses and who will be your witnesses and sign your license. If you want pictures of this, defiantly bring it with you day-of. Are there any other props you like to have, such as a picture of a loved one who passed? Do you want to incorporate any ceremonies for your vows? Are there any other details that are important to you for your elopement?

  5. Take the Full Day to Enjoy & Celebrate: I highly recommend that you set aside the full day for your elopement to enjoy and celebrate. I have had couples who spend the morning relaxing and getting pampered. Or who spent the morning eloping and then met family for dinner to celebrate that evening. This is your day! Allow space to be flexible, be present and enjoy the moments, and celebrate your love together! And I can’t emphasize enough, make it yours!

Eloping this summer can be a dream come true for couples seeking an intimate and awe-inspiring wedding experience. May your elopement be a beautiful celebration of love and an unforgettable start to your new chapter together!
